SoftTech

Kyocera flip-phone MDM

For DuraXV LTE / E4610 running Android 7.1 or 8.x. A separate app from SoftTech’s Android 11 MDM. You need a freshly reset phone, a USB data cable, and Chrome/Edge on a computer. Nothing happens to any phone until you connect it and choose Install.

Download Kyocera MDM v0.1.9 · SHA-256 bdac7e9549d8230c28ee2f26156fb156d76298b6a0ad7526fcd0d3b9d26c72cf

1 · Prepare the phone

  1. Back up anything you need, then factory-reset. No accounts: complete setup without adding any account (Google, Verizon or otherwise). An existing account or device owner prevents enrollment.
  2. Settings → About phone → Software information → press the D-pad OK key on Build number seven times. Open Developer options and enable USB debugging.
  3. Plug in via a USB data cable; accept “Allow USB debugging?” on the phone. Keep it unlocked. Use Chrome/Edge; this installer needs WebUSB. USB debugging stays available when the phone is offline, then is blocked automatically after it joins the dashboard.

2 · Sign in and choose the administrator PIN

Your PIN never leaves this browser: the page turns it into a salted hash here and sends only that hash to the phone over USB. Nothing about it is sent to or stored by this site. Keep it somewhere safe; users cannot enter the MDM’s admin screens without it. New with Kyocera MDM 0.1.9: you can leave both boxes empty. Right after the phone joins, its own setup screens ask for the admin PIN twice, then the video setting, then which apps to install.

Checking your dashboard sign-in…

Phone already set up and on the dashboard? You can leave both PIN boxes empty: the page updates the MDM and the ticked apps in place and keeps the phone’s PIN, settings and dashboard record.

You can change it later on the dashboard (phone → Settings → Admin PIN) or on the phone with the current PIN.

3 · Optional apps

Also install on this phone (optional)

Installed over the same USB connection right after the MDM becomes device owner, before enrollment. Each file’s SHA-256 is checked in this browser first. If one of them fails, the MDM setup still finishes and you’ll see a warning. Untick to skip.

4 · Install over USB

The page checks Android version/accounts, verifies the APK hash, installs it, assigns device owner, grants secure-settings access for the video/Developer guard, sets your PIN, installs the optional apps you ticked, then enrolls with a one-time dashboard code. If the phone has no network, MDM 0.1.3 securely holds the one-time code and joins by itself when Wi-Fi or data becomes available. USB debugging stays on until successful enrollment; then the MDM blocks it. Do not leave an offline phone with debugging enabled unattended.

Sign in above first. No phone changes yet.

What this does—and what needs a phone test

Video links are blocked. For the stock Gallery’s own player, unlock the MDM with your PIN and use “Learn video player” once, or hide the stock Gallery and use SoftTech Gallery (photos only). Pictures and music are left alone. The Developer-options PIN popup depends on a Settings accessibility event; if this firmware hides that event, use the PIN inside the MDM to unlock Developer options. Recovery-mode factory reset remains possible.

Manual USB fallback (advanced)

Download the APK above, then on a freshly reset, account-free phone run:

adb install SoftTech-MDM-Kyocera-v0.1.9.apk
adb shell dpm set-device-owner net.softtech.mdm.legacy/.AdminReceiver
adb shell pm grant net.softtech.mdm.legacy android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
adb shell content call --uri content://net.softtech.mdm.legacy.enroll --method set_pin --arg YOUR_PIN
# (the page itself sends a hashed PIN instead: --method set_pin_hash --arg 'pbkdf2-sha256$20000$SALT$HASH', single quotes kept)
adb install SoftTech-Gallery-Kyocera-v1.0.0.apk # optional: SoftTech Gallery (photos only)
adb install SoftTech-FlipMenu-v0.3.0.apk # optional: SoftTech Flip Menu (home screen)
adb shell content call --uri content://net.softtech.mdm.legacy.enroll --method enroll --arg EIGHT_DIGIT_MDM_CODE

Get an MDM code from Dashboard → Codes, not a Browser code. The optional apps are downloads above. Do the enroll command last: it disables USB debugging after connecting.
